SPECIES DESCRIPTION
ROSA PULVERULENTA

Family and Genus:- See- ROSACEAE/Sect. CANINAE/R. RUBIGINOSA Group

Common Names:- Glandular rose

Homotypic Synonyms:- Rosa glutinosa

Meaning:- Rosa (L) Latin name for various roses.
                  Pulverulenta (L) Covered with powder, powdery, full of dust.              
                
General description:- Much-branched shrublet, usually with suckers.

Stems:-
1) 15-50(-100) cm tall.

Prickles:-
1) Straight to hooked, usually mixed with bristles, acicles and stalked glands.

Leaves:-
1) Leaflets, small to medium-sized, 5-7, 7-15 x 5-15 mm, suborbicular to broadly
    aromatic; margin with rather broad, glandular teeth.obovate, usually  pubescent
    on both sides, densely glandular at least beneath.

Flowers:-
1) Solitary or in few-flowered corymbs.
2) Pedicels, 3-5 mm, often stipitate-glandular, sometimes sparsely pubescent.
3) Sepals, usually lobed, glandular on the back, patent or erect after anthesis,
    suberect and persistent in fruit.
4) Petals, 12-22 mm, pink or white.
5) Hypanthium, ovoid or subglobose, usually glandular-stipitate, red when mature;
6) Styles, densely pubescent, forming a compact head.

Fruit:-
1) c. 10 mm, globose, usually sparsely stipitate-glandular, red.

1) Prickles, usually stout, mixed with glandular setae and acicles.
2) Leaflets, 7-15 x 5-15 mm, usually pubescent and glandular on the upper surface.

Habitat:- Rocky slopes with dry meadows and open woodland. (200-)800-2100) m.
on various substrates.

Distribution:- Mountains of mainland Greece from Taigetos and Parnonas to the N
borders at low altitude in the NE. - Widespread in the Mediterranean reagion and
SW Asia. Rare on Crete known only from the Lefka Ori and Psiloritis mountains.

Flowering time:- May-July.
